Referring to last week’s lessons about Georgia O'Keeffe, we discussed her famous flower paintings and her desert landscapes. This week the students will focus on drawing succulent garden still lifes. The students will learn about the art elements of space and overlapping, patterns and balance.
In class we will review desert plants and answer the question “do we have these types of plants growing where we live?”
The students will follow along with my demonstration, and eventually adding their own ideas into their drawings. Their end result drawings will incorporate designs, patterns, and overlapping

This artists work focused on biometric shapes found in nature such as flowers, leaves, stems etc. please look up her artwork on Google. Look at how she focused on depicting a zoomed in version of each flower.
~
Activity~> Think of your favorite flower. What flower have you been drawn to throughout your life? Is there a particular color of that flower makes you feel happy? Does a certain flower remind you of a family member or a friend?
Look up this flower on Google. Zoom in to the image. Find a perfect zoomed area that you would like to focus on.
(You may create three small thumbnail drawings before starting your main drawing in order to get a better idea of the position of your flower on your paper)
Once you have decided your perfect zoom and positioning, you may begin to draw your flower in pencil. Keep in mind that we are drawing this flower on a larger scale. DO NOT DRAW IT SMALL. DO NOT USE SHADING. Contour drawing (line drawing only) It is to take up more than half of the paper. When you are done with the contour, you may begin coloring your flower. Do not leave any white space on your paper at all. 🌸 TAKE YOUR TIME! Do not rush this,.. and as always,... have fun 🤩 and be creative! 🎨
