On Saturday, March 4th, Deborah Bartley Carter, 7th grade ELA teacher, Christopher Bolsius, 2nd Grade Special Education teacher, and parent Ms. Abo Shoueeb (Jomana's mom), chaperoned the PS 17 History Club to the regional competition for National History Day at Monmouth University.

The club members Jomana Abo Shoueeb-Grade 7, Liraine Torres-Grade 7, Henry Miranda- Grade 8, Kate Trillo- Grade 8 ( not pictured) and  Xariyah Torres- Grade 7 won the regional competition in the junior group exhibit division.   Their project on the Dutch History of Bergen Square was a team effort that resulted in a 25-page research paper and presentation that captivated the judges. They competed against public, private, and charter schools in Hudson, Monmouth, and Ocean counties, and won a qualifying spot.

The team will be moving on to the state level of the competition that will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at William Paterson University. Any type of support to provide a more equitable opportunity for our students in the next round, will be greatly appreciated.  The students will be competing against ALL the counties in the state of New Jersey.
